Ardee Tidy Towns has spoken out strongly after a number of hanging baskets, which had been carefully placed around the town to brighten the streetscape, were vandalised.

The incident has left both the organisation and local residents feeling anger and disappointment. Volunteers who dedicate countless hours to maintaining and improving the town said they were “absolutely disgusted” at the behaviour of those responsible.

“These displays are put in place by hardworking volunteers who give up their time to make the area look welcoming and beautiful for everyone,” a spokesperson for Ardee Tidy Towns said. “It’s such a shame that a few selfish individuals would rather destroy than appreciate. Acts like this show no respect for our community or the people who care for it.”

Community Effort Undermined

Ardee Tidy Towns, a group made up entirely of volunteers, works tirelessly throughout the year to keep the town looking its best. From planting flowers and maintaining green spaces to running regular clean-ups, the group operates on a non-profit basis, relying on the goodwill of the community to support their initiatives.

The vandalism of the hanging baskets is seen not just as damage to plants, but as a direct insult to the effort and dedication of those who contribute their time freely for the benefit of all.

Call for Information

Local residents are being urged to play their part in tackling such behaviour by reporting any information they may have about the incident.

“If you saw anything or know who was responsible, please speak up,” the group appealed. “Let’s not allow the mindless actions of a few ruin what so many have worked hard to create. Our community deserves better.”

Protecting Community Spirit

Despite the frustration caused, Ardee Tidy Towns has vowed not to be disheartened. The group has said it will continue its efforts to enhance the town, but stressed that respect and support from the wider community are vital.

Residents across Ardee have expressed solidarity with the volunteers, praising their dedication and condemning the vandalism as both “selfish” and “disrespectful.”

The incident has sparked a wider conversation about civic pride and the importance of protecting local amenities. Many believe it is time for the community to stand together to ensure that the destructive actions of a small minority do not undermine the positive progress being made.
