A bomb threat that prompted the evacuation of Dundalk courthouse on Tuesday has been declared a hoax by gardaí.
The alarm was raised early in the morning when a staff member reported a potential security threat on Magnet Street, Dundalk, Co. Louth, as court proceedings were underway. Staff and members of the public were immediately evacuated, and a full search of the courthouse began.
The area surrounding Crowe Street was cordoned off by emergency services, causing heavy traffic as patrol cars secured the scene.
Following a thorough investigation, gardaí determined that the threat was not credible. A Garda spokesperson stated:
“Gardaí were made aware of a security alert at a premises at Crowe Street, Dundalk, Co Louth earlier this morning, Tuesday, 14 January 2025. Following further enquiries, An Garda Síochána is satisfied that the alert has been deemed to be a hoax and the area was declared safe. Investigations are ongoing.”
Normal operations have since resumed at the courthouse. Authorities are continuing to investigate the source of the false threat.
