Ardee News and Sport New Era for Nuremore: Carrickmacross Hotel Sold to McGettigan-Led Consortium, 100 New Jobs Planned

The landmark Nuremore Hotel and Golf Resort in Carrickmacross is set for a major transformation after being acquired by a consortium led by the McGettigan family. The new owners have ambitious plans for a significant refurbishment of the iconic venue, with a commitment to creating over 100 new jobs in the region.

The sale, which was completed for an undisclosed sum, marks a fresh chapter for the 70-bedroom hotel, which had ceased trading in 2023. The McGettigan-led consortium has pledged to restore Nuremore to its former glory, positioning it as a top-tier hospitality and leisure destination in the North East.

Revitalizing a Local Landmark

A spokesperson for the investor group emphasized the hotel’s immense potential and their commitment to both the local economy and sustainable tourism.

“When the opportunity to acquire Nuremore arose, we immediately recognized its potential—not just as a business investment but as a key asset for the local community. Our goal is to breathe new life into the hotel and golf club, enhancing both the environmental and economic landscape of the area.

“We are committed to a comprehensive refurbishment, working in close collaboration with the local council, national organizations, and key stakeholders to maximize the site’s potential. This investment will not only create employment opportunities but also position Nuremore as a world-class leisure and hospitality destination.”

Exciting Developments Ahead

Among the planned upgrades, the new owners intend to introduce a McGettigan’s Pub, revamp the hotel’s dining options, and restore the golf course, conference facilities, and leisure centre. Their vision is to create a welcoming, high-quality space that appeals to both locals and visitors from across Ireland and beyond.

Sustainability is a key focus of the redevelopment, with the consortium committed to environmentally responsible practices and collaboration with agencies to promote eco-friendly tourism.

A Prestigious Past, A Bright Future

The Nuremore Hotel has long been regarded as one of the premier hospitality venues in the North East. Located just 2km from Carrickmacross on the Old Ardee Road, the 160-acre estate includes a restaurant, bar, leisure centre, large function room, and a championship 18-hole golf course.

Previously, the hotel was a sought-after wedding and event venue, offering both indoor and outdoor ceremony options with catering for up to 350 guests. Additional amenities include a stand-alone golf clubhouse with bar facilities, spa and wellness centre, indoor pool, sauna, fitness centre, and two outdoor tennis courts.

Looking to the Future

The sale was facilitated by CBRE Hotels on behalf of liquidator Declan De Lacy of Nubility Capital Ltd. John Hughes of CBRE Hotels highlighted the importance of the investment:

“The former Nuremore Hotel and Country Club was a landmark hospitality business in the North East. With capital investment from the new owners, it can be reestablished as a leading resort hotel in the region, attracting significant business from both north and south of the border.”

With extensive renovations planned, the Nuremore Hotel is poised to reclaim its status as a premier destination for tourism, leisure, and events. The local community will be watching closely as the transformation unfolds, eagerly anticipating the return of a much-loved venue with a bright future ahead.
