Cherrybrook Awaits Fairy Housing Plan from Darby O’Gill
By ArdeePost Reporter
Fairly Unusual Planning Application Lands in Cherrybrook
Cherrybrook residents are abuzz this week following confirmation that the very well-known Darby O’Gill, King of the Fairies, has officially lodged a planning application with Louth County Council.
The application, which has already caused a flutter of excitement (and the odd raised eyebrow), seeks permission for a magical new development right in the heart of Cherrybrook.
What’s Included in the Cherrybrook Enchanted Development?
According to the plans submitted, the proposed development will consist of an unspecified number of single-storey and two-storey fairy houses, along with all associated site works—presumably including toadstool doorsteps, dew-resistant roofing and ample wand storage.
In a move that has been widely welcomed by the local insect community, permission is also being sought for a Bee Hotel, featuring an unspecified number of rooms. While no star rating has yet been confirmed, sources say the hotel will be strictly pollen-inclusive and wings-only.
Public Inspection (No Magic Required)
Members of the public wishing to inspect the plans can do so at the offices of Louth County Council, County Hall, Dundalk, during normal opening hours from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
The application can also be viewed online at www.louthcoco.ie, though residents are advised not to sprinkle fairy dust on their keyboards while browsing.
Submissions, Observations and Mild Bewitchment
As with all planning applications, submissions or observations may be made in writing to Louth County Council within five weeks of receipt of the application, subject to a €20 fee.
All submissions will be carefully considered by the Planning Authority, who may grant permission with or without conditions—or, in a worst-case scenario, send the whole thing back to the fairy realm for revisions.
Local Reaction: Mostly Positive (and Slightly Magical)
Reaction from Cherrybrook residents has been largely supportive. One local summed up the mood perfectly, saying:
“Sure the hotel will be a great addition to Cherrybrook and will bring a lot of the visitors to the area.”
Whether those visitors arrive on bicycles, broomsticks or beetles remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—this is one planning application that’s proving simply fairy hard to ignore.
Residents who would like to contribute to the Fairy Village by donating a Fairy House are warmly encouraged to get involved.
