CúChulainn Archers were once again on the move this past weekend as the club travelled south to Coolbawn Woods, Rathnure, Enniscorthy, to take part in the prestigious Slaney Classic 3D Tournament.

The event, hosted by Slaney Archers, drew competitors from across Ireland and served as the final qualifier for the upcoming All-Ireland 3D Championships. The setting in the picturesque Wexford woodland provided both a beautiful backdrop and a challenging course.

Testing skills to the limit

The competition ran across two days and featured all unmarked distances—a true test of skill and instinct. Unlike target archery, where distances are set, participants in 3D events must judge the range themselves before loosing an arrow. The 3D targets, shaped as lifelike birds and animals, add another layer of difficulty as archers have no size reference to rely on.

This format rewards not only accuracy but also a sharp eye and strong fieldcraft, making the Slaney Classic one of the most demanding tournaments on the Irish archery calendar.

CúChulainn Archers results

The CúChulainn Archers contingent produced an excellent set of results across multiple disciplines:

  • Niall Keeble – Senior Male Barebow, Gold
  • Ryan Dougan – Senior Male Barebow, Silver
  • Siobhan Keeble – Female Master Barebow, Gold
  • Alan Convery – Senior Male Compound, Silver
  • Phillip Fitzpatrick – Senior Male Compound, 4th place
  • Gilbert McClelland – Master Male Compound, Silver
  • Mark Young – Senior Male Traditional Bow, 4th place

The club returned home with an impressive medal haul and strong performances across the board, underlining their reputation as one of the leading forces in Irish archery.

Looking ahead

With the All-Ireland Championships now firmly in sight, CúChulainn’s archers are hitting peak form at the right time. The club also continues to grow locally, running beginner courses throughout the year to introduce new members to the sport.

Congratulations to all the competitors!
