Nine-Goal Triumph in FAI Cup Clash
Drogheda United made history with a commanding 9-0 victory over Wilton United at Weavers Park, securing their place in the quarter-finals of the Sports Direct FAI Cup. The emphatic win marks Drogheda’s biggest ever competitive triumph, with nearly 1,000 fans witnessing the record-breaking performance.

The game saw standout performances from Douglas James-Taylor and Bridel Bosakani, who both netted hat-tricks. From the outset, it was clear that Wilton, a Munster Senior League side, was no match for the Drogs. Drogheda’s first two goals came from penalties converted by James-Taylor within the opening 15 minutes, setting the tone for the match.

James-Taylor completed his hat-trick in the 21st minute, scoring his seventh goal in seven games for Drogheda. Ryan Brennan added a fourth just after the half-hour mark, while Frantz Pierrot and Andy Quinn piled on the pressure early in the second half.

Bosakani, celebrating his 20th birthday, scored Drogheda’s seventh, eighth, and ninth goals, sealing a night to remember for both the player and the club. The win surpassed Drogheda’s previous record for their largest competitive victory.

Drogheda’s dominant display leaves them well-positioned as they advance in the FAI Cup, and their fans will long remember this historic performance.
