Gardaí renew appeal in search for missing boy Kyran Durnin
By ArdeePost Reporter
Gardaí have issued a fresh appeal for information on the disappearance and suspected murder of schoolboy Kyran Durnin, who has been missing for over two years.
Kyran, who would have celebrated his ninth birthday this year, was reported missing in August 2024. A full murder investigation was launched in October after it emerged that the child had not been seen since May 2022, when he was attending a primary school in Dundalk.
In a statement, a Garda spokesperson confirmed that “despite extensive and ongoing enquiries”, investigators have so far been unable to locate Kyran or establish what happened to him.
The spokesperson outlined the scale of the investigation to date:
- 570 separate investigative actions have been carried out.
- Two people — a man and a woman — have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
- Three domestic residences and adjoining lands have been searched, including excavation works and full forensic examinations.
- Numerous electronic devices have been seized and analysed.
- More than 29,500 hours of CCTV footage from multiple locations has been collected and reviewed.
Gardaí are also continuing to liaise closely with Tusla, the Child and Family Agency.
Despite this intensive work, Kyran’s whereabouts remain unknown.
Public urged to come forward
An Garda Síochána emphasised that speculation and rumours circulating in public and online are not a substitute for solid information.
“An Garda Síochána continue to appeal to the public, notwithstanding all the information that is in the public domain, to not assume that the investigation team know the information that you may have,” the spokesperson said.
“Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team. This information will be treated in the strictest confidence.”
Contact details
The investigation team, led by a Senior Investigation Officer at Drogheda Garda Station, is urging anyone with information about Kyran to come forward.
The team can be contacted at:
- Drogheda Garda Station on (041) 987 4200
- Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111
- Or through any Garda Station nationwide.
A community still searching for answers
The case has shocked the Dundalk and wider Louth community, with many residents expressing disbelief that a child could go missing for so long without clear answers.
For Kyran’s family and friends, the renewed appeal offers hope that someone may yet hold a piece of information vital to the investigation. Gardaí say the search will remain active until the truth about Kyran’s disappearance is uncovered.
