HSE Launches MMR Vaccine Catch-Up Clinics

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is rolling out an MMR vaccine catch-up programme in community vaccination clinics across Louth and this August. This initiative aims to address gaps in vaccination coverage and combat a recent rise in measles cases observed in the UK and Europe.

The MMR vaccine, which protects against measles, mumps, and rubella (German measles), is a safe and effective combined vaccine. It is critical for preventing these highly infectious diseases that can lead to serious complications such as meningitis, hearing loss, and pregnancy issues.

In response to the increasing cases of measles and to ensure broader protection, the HSE is offering the MMR catch-up programme with two dedicated dates in each county throughout August:

Clinics in Louth:

Thursday, 8th August 2024: Market Street Health Centre, Market Street, Dundalk

TIME: 10-00 AM to 1-00 PM

Thursday, 22nd August 2024: Louth Meath Vaccination Base, St. Brigid’s Campus, Ardee.

TIME: 10-00 AM to 1-00 PM

The campaign focuses on delivering the MMR vaccine to those who might have missed it previously, including:

• Children aged 1 year and older

• Health and care workers

• Individuals born in Ireland from 1 January 1978 or later

• Individuals born outside Ireland who are at risk of measles infection

If you are planning to travel abroad, ensure your baby, aged between 6 and 11 months, receives their MMR vaccine before you go. They should receive the subsequent doses as recommended at 12 months and during junior infants.

MMR vaccines are available free of charge from GPs for all individuals, primarily for those under 18 years, and at HSE community clinics for eligible persons.

For more information on the clinics and to find your nearest vaccination site, visit: HSE MMR Vaccination Clinics. You can also book an appointment through: Book MMR Appointment.

The HSE is also offering targeted clinics for specific groups such as students and underserved communities. For details on measles symptoms and further health advice, visit: HSE Measles Information.

If you exhibit symptoms of measles or have been in contact with someone diagnosed with the disease, seek medical advice promptly and inform your healthcare provider about your symptoms and any recent travel history.

Stay protected and ensure your vaccination status is up to date.
