🏐 Louth SFC Quarter-Finals Almost Set as Pats Secure Place in Last Eight 🏐
There’s just one quarter-final spot left to be decided in this year’s Louth Senior Football Championship, after a thrilling Sunday triple-header that saw St. Pats become the seventh team to book their place in the last eight.
In the opening match of the day, Newtown Blues topped Group 4 with a strong performance, beating the Geraldines. The result means St. Mary’s finish second, while the Gers now find themselves facing the relegation play-offs after finishing bottom of the group.
In Group 2, St Mochtas comfortably claimed top spot, defeating Cooley Kickhams to secure their quarter-final berth. The Louth Village side now advances ahead of the Mairtins, while Cooley also head to the relegation play-offs.
The evening clash saw St. Pats emerge victorious over St. Brides, winning 1-15 to 1-8 in Clans. The Lordship side made the most of the strong wind in the first half, surging to a 10-1 lead at halftime. Aidan McCann’s goal right after the break extended their lead to 12 points, effectively ending the contest. Despite a better second half, the Brides couldn’t close the gap, consigning themselves to a second straight year of relegation play-offs. Pats finished top of Group 1, with the Dreadnots already securing second place.
The final group match takes place tonight (Monday), with a high-stakes clash between St Fechins and Roche Emmets in Stabannon at 8pm. It’s a straight ‘winner takes all’ game, with the victors securing the last quarter-final spot in Group 3, while the losers face the relegation play-offs.
The draw for the quarter-finals will be made after tonight’s showdown. Stay tuned!
