St Brigid’s Day Swim Brings Community Together

A group of inspiring women from St Kevin’s G4M&O (Gaelic for Mothers and Others) braved freezing conditions in Clogherhead to raise vital funds for Women’s Aid Dundalk, marking St Brigid’s Day with a powerful show of solidarity and community spirit.

The cold-water dip formed part of a Women Supporting Women fundraiser, with participants taking to the Irish Sea despite bitter temperatures — all in aid of a cause close to many hearts.

Freezing Dip for a Worthy Cause

Undeterred by the cold, the St Kevin’s Mothers and Others, joined by friends and supporters, gathered early on Clogherhead Beach to take the plunge. Cheers from the shoreline, plenty of encouragement, and a strong sense of togetherness helped carry the group through the challenge.

Before entering the water, participants were treated to a warm-up and stretch session led by Kind Heart Yoga, one of their own, helping to prepare bodies and minds for the icy conditions.

Fundraising Still Ongoing

While the dip itself may be over, the fundraising effort is not finished yet. The group has set a target for Women’s Aid Dundalk — and they’re urging the wider Louth community to help them get there.

Supporters are being encouraged to Revolut a Mother €5, €10, or whatever they can spare, with every contribution making a real difference to the services provided by Women’s Aid.

A bucket collection also took place on the day at the beach, with generous donations from locals and passers-by.

Community Spirit at Its Best

Organised with the support of St Kevin’s Community Centre, the event highlighted the strength of community action in County Louth and the willingness of local women to step up — even into freezing waters — to support others.

The St Kevin’s G4M&O group thanked everyone who dipped, donated, cheered from the beach, or supported the fundraiser in any way.

How You Can Still Help

Donations are still welcome, and anyone who would like to contribute can do so by Revoluting one of the participating ladies directly. Every euro raised goes towards supporting Women’s Aid Dundalk in their crucial work helping women and families across the region.

💜 A cold dip, warm hearts, and a powerful reminder of what community in Louth can achieve when women support women. 💪🏻
