Security Alert in Ardee: Residents Evacuated as Army Bomb Disposal Experts Make Area Safe

Security Alert in Ardee

Last night, Army bomb disposal experts were called to Ardee following the discovery of a suspected pipe bomb, prompting a security alert that led to the evacuation of several homes.

Gardaí received a report of the suspicious device in the Hale Street area around 9 p.m. The alarm was raised by a local resident who stumbled upon the device while preparing to cut the grass at the bottom of De La Salle Crescent. The device was found concealed in a plastic bag, heightening the concern for public safety.

Upon receiving the report, Gardaí swiftly cordoned off the area and evacuated a number of nearby homes as a precaution. The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit was dispatched to the scene to assess and safely remove the device.

The EOD Unit worked meticulously to ensure the area was secure, allowing residents to return to their homes later in the evening. The device was safely removed, and no injuries were reported during the operation.

Gardaí have confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the origin and intent behind the device. They have appealed to the public for any information that might assist in their inquiries.

This incident has underscored the importance of community vigilance and the swift response of emergency services in ensuring public safety. Residents have been praised for their cooperation during the evacuation process, which contributed to the smooth handling of the situation.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
