A person has been hospitalized with serious injuries following a multi-car collision in County Louth on the evening of Wednesday, August 21. The incident occurred on the R166 route, between Castlebellingham and Tallanstown, near the M1 Junction 15 flyover at approximately 8:30 p.m.

The collision, which involved a car and a van, caused significant traffic disruption as emergency services attended the scene. The injured individual was transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where they are being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed the incident, stating, “Gardaí attended the scene of a two-vehicle RTC (road traffic collision) that occurred at Junction 15 of the M1 on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m. One passenger was removed from the scene to OLOL Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”

The road was temporarily closed while investigations were carried out by the Gardaí, but it has since been reopened. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.

This collision follows another serious road traffic accident in County Louth earlier this week. On Monday, August 19, two women were seriously injured in a two-car crash on the R168 between Drogheda and Slane, near Tullyallen. The women, aged in their 20s and 50s, were also taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment.

Both accidents have prompted Gardaí to urge motorists to exercise caution on the roads, particularly during periods of poor visibility or challenging weather conditions.
