In a showcase of grit and determination, St. Fechin’s secured their fourth consecutive Louth Senior Hurling Championship title this afternoon, defeating Knockbridge 1-17 to 1-10 at Dowdallshill. The victory marks an impressive achievement for the Termonfeckin club, highlighting their dominance in the county’s hurling scene.

The match was closely contested, but St. Fechin’s pulled away in the latter stages, with a final margin of seven points. Man of the Match Paddy Lynch played a pivotal role in the win, contributing an outstanding 0-10 to the scoreboard.

Reflecting on the match, St. Fechin’s forward Sean Hodgins expressed his joy and relief. In an interview with Colm Corrigan, Hodgins highlighted the significance of their continued success: “There’s a lot of hard work to get here. There’s three teams in Louth. It’s a small group of us but we’re all very close. We won the two group games this year but sure you saw us in the group beforehand. One of the years we didn’t win a game to get to the final. Last year we only won one. It’s really tight. We knew they were going to put it up to us today.”

Despite the seven-point gap at the final whistle, Hodgins acknowledged the pressure they faced as Knockbridge made a determined push towards the end: “The seven points in it there at the end, but still as you’re coming down the home straight, like they’re lumping ball in and it’s a very, very tight game. We’re just delighted to get over the line.”

With this win, St. Fechin’s not only adds another title to their name but also solidifies their place as one of the premier teams in Louth hurling.
