Team Ireland proudly represented the nation at the prestigious World Archery 3D Championships 2024, which took place from 30th September to 6th October in the breathtaking surroundings of Mokrice Castle, located on the Slovenia-Croatia border. The medieval castle, perched in the scenic Gorjanci Hills, provided a unique and challenging setting, where competitors even had to bring their passports as the border runs directly through the site!
Three talented archers from CúChulainn Archers—Neil Keeble, Mark Young, and Ryan Dougan—were part of Team Ireland, and they made their club and country proud with strong performances in a highly competitive environment.
After unofficial practice sessions leading up to the start of the event, Monday saw the official beginning with registration, equipment inspections, and the much-anticipated Opening Ceremony. The competition kicked off in earnest on Tuesday, with the first round of qualifiers. Archers were divided into three categories: Traditional Archers on the Blue course, Compound Archers on the Yellow course, and Barebow Archers on the Red course. The qualifiers ran daily from 10:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
In the Barebow Individual Qualifiers, Ryan Dougan finished in a commendable 36th place, followed by Neil Keeble in 40th. Meanwhile, in the Traditional division, Mark Young placed 54th, giving it his all in a highly skilled field.
All Irish team members are to be congratulated for their dedication and effort in what proved to be a grueling and competitive championship. The CúChulainn Archers continue to excel on the international stage, showcasing the talent within Irish archery.
