Todd Completes Hat-Trick at Armoy Road Races

Davey Todd has secured a stunning hat-trick of wins at the Armoy road races, dominating the weekend’s events with victories in the feature ‘Race of Legends’, the Open race, and the second Supersport race. The 28-year-old Yorkshireman set a new absolute course lap record of 109.325mph in the main race, extending his impressive tally at the County Antrim event to seven wins.

In the marquee ‘Race of Legends’, Todd exhibited commanding performance from start to finish, setting a new lap record of 1:39.051 on his Powertoolmate V2 Ducati. Todd’s victory was convincing, with a 6.5-second lead over runner-up Phil Crowe. Dominic Herbertson and Jamie Coward rounded out the top four.

Todd’s supremacy extended to the Supersport category where he claimed victory in the second race, finishing 1.7 seconds ahead of Mike Browne. Todd also set the fastest lap of the race at 104.963mph, continuing his dominance from Friday’s opening Supersport event, where Browne had outpaced him.

In the Open race, Todd further showcased his skills by breaking his own two-year-old lap speed record, reaching 108.691mph. He won by a significant margin of 10.79 seconds, with Phil Crowe and Jamie Coward completing the podium. Dominic Herbertson, Michael Sweeney, and Browne rounded out the top six, while Manxman Conor Cummins finished eighth on his FHO Racing BMW.

This remarkable performance follows Todd’s successful 2022 season where he clinched a four-timer. His current season has been nothing short of stellar, including wins at the Isle of Man TT, a treble at the North West 200, leading the National Superstock 1000cc series, and securing the Southern 100 Solo Championship.

Coward Doubles Up in Supertwins

In the Supertwins class, Jamie Coward achieved a double victory, narrowly beating Mike Browne in both races. Coward’s Kawasaki performance in race one and race two saw him winning by minimal margins of 0.012 and 0.067 seconds respectively. Coward, who had set a new unofficial lap record in Friday’s qualifying by becoming the first Supertwins rider to lap over 100mph, solidified his record with a best speed of 100.536mph during Saturday’s races. Browne and Jordan also recorded laps over 100mph, showcasing the intense competition in the Supertwins class.

In other notable results, David Bell triumphed in the Classic Superbike race, narrowly defeating Phil Crowe by 0.99 seconds. In the Moto3/125cc category, Herberston claimed victory on his Honda, with Chris Meyer and Nigel Moore finishing second and third respectively.

This weekend’s racing at Armoy has once again highlighted the incredible talent and competitive spirit within the motorcycle racing community.
