Louth GAA Round-Up: Big Win Over Kildare Ends League

It was a hugely important weekend for Louth GAA as the county side secured a major win over Kildare in the final round of the Allianz National Football League Division 2.

Louth defeat Kildare in high-scoring clash

Louth finished their Division 2 campaign with an impressive 1-25 to 0-25 victory over Kildare at Cedral St Conleth’s Park. The crucial goal in the second half proved to be the difference between the sides in a high-scoring and entertaining encounter.

The win saw Louth finish their league campaign strongly, while the result confirmed Kildare’s relegation from Division 2 after a difficult season.

Louth had been in promotion contention heading into the final round, and although other results meant they narrowly missed out on promotion, the campaign is still being viewed as a very positive one overall.

Strong league campaign for Louth

Over the course of the league, Louth recorded several impressive results, including a recent win over Derry in Ardee which kept their promotion hopes alive going into the final round.

The team has shown significant progress in recent seasons and has established itself as one of the most competitive sides in Division 2.

Captain Sam Mulroy once again played a key role for Louth throughout the league campaign, leading from the front and contributing heavily on the scoreboard across multiple games.

Club action continues across Louth

While the inter-county league campaign has now concluded, attention now turns back to club action across the county.

This week sees semi-finals in the Powerscreen New England Paddy Sheelan Cup and Shield competitions, with several local clubs in action including Ardee St Mary’s, Naomh Mairtin, St Fechins, St Brides, Mattock Rangers and St Joseph’s

These competitions are an important part of the local GAA calendar and give clubs valuable competitive games early in the season.

Attention turns to championship

With the Allianz League now complete, Louth will begin preparing for the Leinster Championship, where they will be hoping to carry their strong league form into the championship campaign.

After a league campaign that saw big wins, close games and a final day victory, there is a growing sense of optimism around Louth GAA heading into the championship season.

Supporters across the county — including many in Ardee and Mid-Louth — will be hoping the team can continue their progress and make a strong impact in Leinster in the months ahead.
