Leavy’s Quickfire Brace Leaves Drogheda United Reeling at Home
St Pats 3
Kian Leavy was the star of the show, netting his first career brace in a performance that saw the Saints rediscover their title-challenging form. For the Drogs, the result marks a ninth consecutive league outing without a win, leaving the Boynesiders searching for answers as they struggle to move clear of the bottom of the table.
First-Half Blitz
The game was barely underway when the visitors took the lead. With just 46 seconds on the clock, Aidan Keena found space on the edge of the area. His deflected effort looped over Drogheda’s debutant goalkeeper Flynn Talley to give Stephen Kenny’s side a dream start.
Pats remained in complete control, and the pressure eventually told in a devastating five-minute spell before the break. Kian Leavy doubled the lead on 35 minutes, and before the home side could catch their breath, he made it 3-0. The midfielder picked up the ball outside the box, slalomed past two United defenders, and curled a clinical strike into the bottom corner.
Drogheda United Fight Back
Drogheda manager Kevin Doherty introduced a triple substitution at the interval, bringing on Kareem, Brennan, and Cruise in an attempt to spark a comeback. The changes did prompt a much more competitive second-half performance from the Claret and Blue.
Hope of an unlikely revival was briefly ignited when Brandon Kavanagh found the net from 25 yards. The goal came after Pats keeper Joseph Anang misjudged a sprint off his line to clear, leaving his goal unguarded.
Status Quo at the Whistle
While the second period was far more even, Drogheda failed to further rattle the Saints’ defense. The visitors managed the closing stages with experience to keep the pressure on league leaders Shamrock Rovers, while United remain stuck in a concerning rut of form.
