Square United Red Team Maintain Winning Streak as Green Squad Shows True Grit

Ardee & District Schoolboys League | Match Reports

Week 2 of the season saw both Square United underage teams travel for challenging away fixtures, returning with vital experience and plenty of positives.

It was a weekend of contrasting fortunes on the scoreboard but equal determination across the board. The Red team continued their perfect start to the campaign, while the Green team demonstrated the kind of resilience that defines the club’s spirit.

🔴 Square United Red Team: Clinical Display at Rock Celtic

The Red team traveled to face Rock Celtic and asserted their dominance from the opening whistle. A masterclass in midfield control allowed the Ardee boys to dictate the tempo, leading to a flurry of sharp attacking moves.

By the half-time whistle, the Reds had carved out a commanding 3-0 lead thanks to a combination of clinical finishing and disciplined defensive organization. They added two further goals in the second half, and while the hosts managed to claw back two late scores, Square United’s victory was never in doubt.

Performance Note: That’s 2 wins from 2 games for the Red team—a fantastic start to the new season!

🟢 Square United Green Team: Resilience in Bellurgan

The Green team faced a formidable Bellurgan side in a match that tested their character from the start. A difficult first half saw the hosts capitalize on space in the midfield, scoring four goals from long range to put the Square boys on the back foot.

However, the Ardee side refused to fold. Showing clinical efficiency on the counter-attack, they struck twice before the break to keep the contest alive at 4-2. The second half was a completely different story, as the Green team tightened their lines and matched Bellurgan’s physical intensity.

Despite the early deficit, the Green team’s second-half response showed great determination and tactical improvement.

Looking Ahead

The coaching staff have praised the effort of every player across both squads this weekend. With the season now in full swing, both the Red and Green teams are back on the training pitch this week, ready to build on these performances in Week 3.

  • Red Team Status: Undefeated (100% record).
  • Green Team Status: Improving game-by-game with strong squad morale.
Well done to all the players, coaches, and travelling supporters for another great weekend of football! 👏
