Round 3 Wrap: Hunterstown and Joes Stay Perfect; Gaels Stun St Mary’s
Dundalk Gaels 2-15 St Mary’s 0-13
Dundalk Gaels continued their impressive early-season form with a clinical eight-point victory over St Mary’s in Ardee. Goals from Sean Murray and Thomas O’Connell proved decisive for the Dundalk men.
The Gaels weathered an early Ardee surge before O’Connell found the net to hand them a 1-7 to 0-9 half-time lead. The second half was dominated by the visitors, particularly after Murray’s goal and a red card for the Mid Louth side. Thomas O’Connell finished with an incredible 1-7, while Carl Gillespie and Jonathan Commins top-scored for the Marys with four points each.
Hunterstown Rovers 2-16 Geraldines 1-11
Hunterstown Rovers maintained their 100% record with a powerful second-half display in Haggardstown. Trailing 1-7 to 0-8 at the break following a Niall Brennan goal for the Gers, Rovers took control in the final quarter.
A penalty from Jamie O’Callaghan and a second goal from Jason Monaghan ensured Hunterstown made it three wins from three, keeping them at the summit of the table.
St Joseph’s 4-15 Mattock Rangers 0-7
The Joes produced the most dominant performance of the round, dismantling Mattock Rangers at Cluskey Park. Oisin McGuinness was the star of the show, bagging 2-3 in a 20-point rout.
With further goals from Conor Neary and Jack Mulligan, the Joes match Hunterstown’s perfect record at the top of the Division 1 standings.
Dreadnots 3-10 Naomh Mairtin 1-15
In the game of the weekend, Craig Shevlin was the hero for Dreadnots, scoring a dramatic injury-time goal to snatch victory from Naomh Mairtin in Clogherhead. The “Jocks” looked set for their first win of the campaign until Shevlin’s late intervention capped off a 1-6 personal haul and a vital two points for the hosts.
St Patrick’s 1-18 Newtown Blues 0-13
The Lordship men continued their encouraging start with an eight-point home win. Despite a spirited Blues rally before half-time, the Pats took over in the second period with Jack Murphy (0-5) and Martin McEneaney (0-4) leading the charge to keep the Blues winless this season.
