Ardee Native Peter Geraghty Inaugurated as President of Planning Officers’ Society

Peter Geraghty

Peter Geraghty a native of Ardee, was inaugurated as President of the Planning Officers’ Society (POS) for 2024-2025 at its annual meeting in London on July 12th.

POS represents approximately 2,000 planners working in 80% of local authorities and public sector organisations across England.

Formed in April 1997 from the merger of three regional planning societies, POS serves as a unified voice for local authority planners, promoting effective planning practices within local government.

Peter Geraghty, the eldest son of Breda and P.J. Geraghty of John Street, Ardee, is the first individual to serve as President of both the POS and the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), having led the latter in 2013-2014. A Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (FAcSS), Peter Geraghty has practiced in England for many years.

He expressed his pride in representing his native county at the highest professional level, attributing his success to the support of his parents during his education in Ardee, Dundalk (DkIT), and university.

“As a proud Ardonian and a Louth man through and through I think it is great to represent my native county at the highest level in my profession.” He added. “I am eternally grateful for the support of my parents during my education in Ardee, Dundalk (DkIT) and subsequently at University. I owe so much to them.”
