Construction Begins on New Tesco Store at M1 Retail Park
Work has commenced on a new Tesco supermarket at the M1 Retail Park, located on the north side of Drogheda. The new development, which will include a single-story Tesco retail supermarket and an adjacent cafe retail unit, is being built on land south of the existing M1 Retail Park, close to the current Lidl supermarket.
The expansive project will feature a range of amenities, including a dedicated car park and various site works. The Tesco unit will be part of a broader development that encompasses ten single-story retail units. These will include a DIY/Home store with a garden center, eight smaller retail/commercial units—including a cafe and pharmacy—and a single-story Drive-Thru Restaurant/Cafe unit with an external seating area.
The M1 Retail Park already hosts over 20 commercial units, occupied by high-profile names such as Woodies, Power City, EZ Living, Toyota, Volkswagen, Skoda, Lidl, and Sports Direct. The new development will further enhance the retail park’s offerings, adding to its appeal as a major commercial hub in Co. Louth.
Key features of the new Tesco development include:
• Deliveries and Service Areas: A designated deliveries area and service yard will be situated to the south and rear of Retail Unit 1, with a dedicated set-down point proposed near its front entrance.
Deliveries for units 2-10 will also be accommodated to the rear, with a truck turning area provided behind unit 10.
• Parking Facilities: The development will offer a total of 311 car parking spaces, including 23 accessible parking spaces, two click-and-collect spaces, and 17 parent-and-child spaces.
Additionally, there will be a bus parking area with four spaces and 104 bicycle parking spaces.
• Pedestrian Amenities: A partially covered pedestrian circulation space will be provided at the front of each unit, ensuring a comfortable shopping experience for visitors.
The commencement of construction marks a significant milestone for Drogheda, promising to bring enhanced retail options and amenities to the north side of the town. The development is expected to boost the local economy, providing new jobs and attracting more shoppers to the area.
