Dublin Rematch Confirmed: Louth Face Tough Road in All-Ireland Opener
Louth have been handed a challenging start to their All-Ireland Senior Football Championship campaign after being drawn away to Dublin in the opening round.
All-Ireland SFC Round One
Fixture: Dublin vs Louth
Date: May 30th or 31st, 2026
Venue: Dublin (Away)
The draw, which took place on Monday afternoon, sets up a swift rematch between the sides following Dublin’s 10-point victory over the Wee County in the Leinster semi-final. Louth will now travel to face Ger Brennan’s side in their first group game of the new Sam Maguire format.
Back to the Drawing Board
The result in Portlaoise remains fresh in the minds of supporters, where an unchanged Louth side struggled to contain a clinical Dublin outfit. With the fixture scheduled for the final weekend of May, management will have a few weeks to regroup and address the “major overhaul” many feel is necessary to compete with top-tier opposition.
Dublin’s Resurgence
Dublin, under Ger Brennan, arrived in the All-Ireland series on the back of their strongest performance of the year. While Brennan missed the semi-final due to suspension, he is expected to be back on the sideline for the Leinster decider and subsequent All-Ireland opener.
As discussed regarding the Louth U20s, the call for new blood in the senior team has grown louder following the semi-final exit. With a wealth of talent available across the county, fans are eager to see if fresh faces will be integrated before the trip to Dublin.
Wider Draw Roundup
The Round One draw produced several other heavyweight clashes, including reigning champions Kerry hosting Donegal and an all-Ulster tie between Armagh and Derry. Cork will face Meath, while Monaghan are set to host Mayo in Clones.
