Ardee and Navan Gardaí Urged to Act After Ardee Graffiti Incidents
Gardaí in Ardee and Navan are being urged to intervene following another incident of antisemitic graffiti on roads in the Bigstown and Shanlis areas on the Louth/Meath border.
The offensive graffiti appeared overnight on public roads in the rural areas outside Ardee, marking the eleventh incident of its kind in the same general area.
Gardaí have confirmed that the matter is under investigation, with the incidents occurring along roads that fall within both the Louth and Meath Garda divisions, meaning cooperation between both districts will be required.
Councillor calls for action
Local councillor Paddy Meade has strongly condemned the graffiti and is calling for immediate action to stop those responsible.
He described the situation as “completely unacceptable” and said the repeated nature of the incidents is deeply concerning for local residents.
“I’m urgently calling on both Garda divisions that represent Meath and Louth to work together to have a serious talk with the man that is painting the roads and ask him politely, or otherwise, to stop doing it,” he said.
Clean-up effort required again
Cllr Meade also pointed out that council workers will once again have to divert resources to remove the graffiti, which he said is extensive and often appears in areas near schools and along public roads.
“And again, sadly, I’ll be calling on the council to go out and clean the roads and take them away from filling potholes, probably for a day or two, because that’s how much paint there is out here,” he said.
“We can’t leave these offensive remarks outside our schools and on our public roads.”
Ongoing issue in border areas
The repeated graffiti incidents have become a serious concern for residents living in the rural border areas between Louth and Meath, particularly around Bigstown and Shanlis.
Local representatives say the fact that this is now the eleventh incident shows that a more coordinated approach is needed between Garda divisions to identify and stop whoever is responsible.
Gardaí have not released further details but investigations are ongoing. Residents who may have seen anything suspicious in the areas are being asked to contact Gardaí.
The incidents have been widely condemned locally, with community representatives stressing that such messages have no place in the area and are causing distress to local communities.
