Drogheda United Issues Stern Warning to Supporters Ahead of Bank Holiday Double-Header
Drogheda United FC has taken the step of issuing a formal warning to its supporters regarding matchday conduct, following what the club described as “unacceptable incidents” during the recent Louth Derby at Oriel Park.
The warning comes as the “Drogs” prepare for a high-intensity Bank Holiday double-header. The club stated that while the vast majority of fans are a credit to the town, a small minority has engaged in behavior that risks both the safety of others and the reputation of the club.
Incidents at Oriel Park
The statement follows disturbances at the recent away fixture against Dundalk FC. The club expressed deep disappointment over the use of flares and smoke bombs, as well as confrontations that occurred within the stadium. Such incidents have already resulted in significant fines from the FAI, which the club noted “drains vital resources that should be going toward the first team and community projects.”
Tightened Security Measures
Fans attending the upcoming home fixtures at Weavers Park should expect increased security protocols. This includes more robust searches at the turnstiles and a higher steward presence in both the home and away sections. The club is also working closely with An Garda Síochána to identify individuals involved in recent disturbances using high-definition CCTV footage.
Support the Right Way
Drogheda United has urged the faithful to focus their energy on vocal support for Kevin Doherty’s side during this crucial stage of the season. “The players thrive on the atmosphere created by our fans, but it must be done within the rules of the game,” the statement concluded.
