
The search for a missing man in Dundalk has been stood down following the discovery of a body, bringing a tragic end to a week-long operation in North Louth.
Shane McEvoy, aged 38, from Newry, Co. Down, had been reported missing after he was last seen on Friday, March 13th between 9pm and 9.30pm in the vicinity of the Circle K service station near Junction 20 in Drumad, Co. Louth.
A large-scale search effort had been underway in recent days, with Gardaí appealing to the public for information regarding his whereabouts. It is understood that when Mr. McEvoy was last seen, he may have been walking with a limp and could have been injured.
On Thursday afternoon, Gardaí confirmed that the search operation had been stood down following the discovery of a body. In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said:
“Following the discovery of a body, the missing person appeal in respect of Shane McEvoy (38), who was reported missing from Dundalk, Co. Louth since Friday 13th March 2026, has been stood down. Gardaí would like to thank the media for their assistance.”
The update came shortly after a number of prayer vigils had been organised locally, reflecting the concern and support within the community during the search.
The discovery has deeply affected the local area, with many expressing their condolences and sympathy to Mr. McEvoy’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.
