Supporter Notice: Traffic and Safety Measures for Sligo Rovers v Dundalk
Gardaí in Sligo have issued a comprehensive public safety warning and traffic management plan ahead of the highly anticipated clash between Sligo Rovers and Dundalk FC at The Showgrounds.
The fixture, which is expected to draw a significant crowd, has prompted authorities to implement strict measures to ensure the safety of both home and visiting supporters. Gardaí are urging fans to cooperate with official stewards and local officers to prevent disruption in the surrounding residential areas.
Traffic & Parking Restrictions
Motorists are advised that parking in the immediate vicinity of The Showgrounds will be strictly monitored. To maintain access for emergency services and local residents, Gardaí have highlighted several key points:
- Illegal Parking: Vehicles obstructing footpaths, residents’ driveways, or clearways will be subject to fines or towing.
- Recommended Parking: Supporters are encouraged to use designated town centre car parks and walk to the stadium to alleviate congestion on Church Hill and surrounding roads.
- Early Arrival: Turnstiles will open well in advance of kick-off, and fans are asked to arrive early to avoid last-minute bottlenecks.
Zero Tolerance on Pyrotechnics
Following recent incidents across the league, Gardaí have reiterated a zero-tolerance policy regarding the use of flares, smoke bombs, and other pyrotechnics inside or in the vicinity of the stadium.
“The use of pyrotechnics poses a significant health and safety risk to fellow supporters, including respiratory issues and potential burns,” a spokesperson noted. Anyone found in possession of such items faces immediate ejection from the ground and potential criminal prosecution.
Alcohol and Public Order
Strict enforcement of legislation regarding the consumption of alcohol in public places will be in effect. Supporters are reminded that it is an offence to consume alcohol on the streets approaching the stadium. Additionally, anyone deemed to be under the excessive influence of alcohol may be refused entry to the ground by security staff.
Advice for Travelling Fans
Dundalk supporters travelling to Sligo are advised to follow the designated routes provided by travel clubs and to follow the instructions of Gardaí upon arrival at the ground. Dedicated sections for away fans will be clearly signposted, and stewards will be on hand to assist with entry procedures.
