Ardee News and SportLandmark Nuremore Hotel Hits the Market for €6 Million

The iconic Nuremore Hotel, located just outside Carrickmacross in Co. Monaghan, has officially been listed for sale with a guide price of €6 million. This sale marks a significant moment for the local area, as the hotel has been a staple of the community for decades, known for its scenic surroundings and impressive amenities.

The property is being sold by Declan De Lacy, Liquidator of Nubility Capital Ltd., following the hotel’s closure in 2023. The Nuremore Hotel had been established and developed by the Gilhooly family, with Julie Gilhooly at the helm. After decades of running the business, the family retired in 2020, selling the hotel to The Kylin Prime Group. However, the hotel ceased trading three years later, leaving the property vacant until this sale.

Prime Location and Extensive Facilities

Situated just 2 kilometers from Carrickmacross town centre, the Nuremore Hotel spans an impressive 160 acres of parkland along the old Ardee Road, offering stunning views of the Monaghan countryside. The 70-bedroom hotel is renowned for its range of amenities, including a restaurant, bar, and leisure centre, as well as a large function room suitable for events and weddings.

Business travelers also benefited from the hotel’s custom-built conference centre, designed to host meetings and conferences of various sizes. The site includes two large car parks, with easy access from both the Dundalk and Ardee roads.

Championship Golf Course and Outdoor Amenities

One of the hotel’s standout features is its 18-hole championship golf course, designed by the renowned Eddie Hackett in 1991. The course is set amidst the natural beauty of Monaghan’s hills, offering a challenging layout with water hazards on the 2nd, 5th, and 8th holes. Golfers can also take advantage of the standalone clubhouse, which includes bar facilities for après-golf refreshments.

For those seeking relaxation, the Nuremore Hotel offered a dedicated spa and wellness area complete with treatment rooms, an indoor swimming pool, a sauna, and a fitness centre. Outdoor enthusiasts could enjoy two tennis courts located between the hotel and the golf course, making the property a well-rounded destination for both leisure and sport.

Future Potential

The sale of the Nuremore Hotel presents an exciting opportunity for investors or hospitality groups looking to acquire a substantial property with a rich history and extensive facilities. The combination of luxury accommodations, conference amenities, a renowned golf course, and leisure options makes the property highly versatile and attractive for a wide range of uses.

With its prime location near Carrickmacross and excellent access routes, the Nuremore Hotel is poised to become a thriving hub once again under the right ownership. Whether continuing its legacy as a high-end hotel or transforming it into a specialized resort, the possibilities for this iconic venue are abundant.

As the sale progresses, the local community and potential buyers alike will watch with interest to see who will take on this historic landmark and its next chapter.
