NW200: Victim of Fatal Incident Named as Experienced Czech Rider Kamil Holan

Czech rider Kamil Holan has been officially named as the competitor who tragically lost his life following an incident at the North West 200 on Thursday morning.

Mr. Holan, an experienced 48-year-old racer from Prague, came off his machine during the Superbike qualifying session at Station Corner—the fastest point on the 8.9-mile Triangle circuit. While his family had initially approved the event to continue on Thursday, they requested that his identity remain private until all loved ones were informed.

“Kamil, you were an inspiration, support and a partner in life and on the track. Your humility, passion and smile will be missed every second. Your legacy will live on in Hefty74 and in our hearts.”

A Legacy on the Roads

Holan was a highly respected figure in the international road racing paddock. In 2012, he became the first Czech competitor to win at the Manx Grand Prix, taking victory in the Newcomers ‘A’ race. He also held the title of the fastest Czech competitor ever to lap the Isle of Man TT course, with a career-best 20th place finish in the 2018 Superbike race.

His career spanned the world’s most challenging circuits, including the Ulster Grand Prix and the Macau Grand Prix. His death marks the first fatality at the North West 200 in ten years, casting a somber cloud over Northern Ireland’s premier motorcycling event.

Impact on the Event

Thursday’s session was red-flagged shortly after 10:20 AM, leading to significant delays throughout the day. While the planned evening races were replaced by qualifying sessions to ensure adequate track time for all competitors, the atmosphere at the paddock remains one of profound reflection.

For the road racing fans across Louth and Ardee, this tragedy is felt deeply. The Ardee Post extends its deepest sympathies to Kamil’s partner, Zaneta, his family, and the entire road racing community during this difficult time.
