St Mochtas Beat Ardee St Marys as Division 1 League Gets Underway
St Mochtas Edge St Marys in Ardee
Reigning Louth champions St Mochtas made a winning start to their Division 1 campaign with victory over Ardee St Marys on Saturday night in difficult conditions.
Goalkeeper Rory O’Kane proved to be the hero for the visitors when his second-half ‘45 dropped into the net and proved to be the winning goal in a low-scoring encounter.
St Marys started brightly and led at half time by 0-5 to 1-0, with Calum Caffrey and Conor Gillespie among the scorers. However, second-half points from Gerry Garland and Jamie Farrell helped St Mochtas secure the win.
Hunterstown Start With Big Win
Hunterstown Rovers opened their Division 1 campaign in impressive fashion with a comprehensive victory over Dreadnots in Clogherhead.
Goals from Ciaran Russell, Colm Murphy and Dean Burns sealed the win after a dominant first-half performance where Rovers led 0-13 to 0-0 at the break.
Mattock Hold Off Geraldines
Mattock Rangers also started the season with a win, holding off a late Geraldines comeback to record a 1-11 to 1-9 victory.
A goal from Cathal Fleming and two-pointers from Ben McKenna helped the Collon side build a lead that ultimately proved enough.
Division 2 Round-Up
In Division 2, St Fechins produced a strong performance to defeat Sean O’Mahonys, while Roche Emmets recorded an impressive win over St Brides.
Stabannon Parnells also made a winning start to the season with victory over Oliver Plunketts, while St Kevins edged a tight contest against Young Irelands.
