Louth Ladies Seeking to end a Marvellous Spring with League Title

Louth v Antrim | Saturday, 1:00 PM | Crossmaglen

PROMOTION SECURED
Louth vs Antrim
The Louth Ladies are targeting their third straight piece of major silverware this Saturday as they prepare to face familiar foes Antrim in the NFL Division 3 Final.

It has been a remarkable spring for Kevin Larkin’s side. After a dominant league phase where they finished top of the table, the Wee County have already achieved their primary goal of promotion. However, the opportunity to secure a national league title before the championship begins is one this squad is determined to take.

Building a Winning Culture

This current crop of Louth players is becoming accustomed to big days out. Last season, they successfully retained their Leinster title before reaching the pinnacle of the Junior ranks, claiming All-Ireland glory at Croke Park against the very same Antrim side they face this weekend.

Having bested the Saffrons earlier this season in a gritty encounter in Drogheda, Louth hold the psychological edge. Yet, captain Áine Breen is under no illusions about the challenge posed by the Ulster side, noting that Antrim will be desperate for revenge after several high-profile losses to Louth in recent head-to-heads.

“The fact that both teams are already promoted means the shackles are now off. It’s a different scenario than other finals we’ve been in recently, but we want that trophy.” – Áine Breen, Louth Captain.

The Step Up to Division 2

While the immediate focus is on the trophy, the long-term future looks bright for Louth football. Promotion to Division 2 for the 2027 season represents a significant step up in quality, with clashes against heavyweights like Dublin and Kildare now on the horizon.

Captain Breen admits it is an “exciting time” to be involved, as the team continues to bridge the gap toward the elite levels of the game. With the Intermediate Championship at both provincial and All-Ireland levels looming, Saturday serves as the perfect springboard for the summer ahead.

Match Details

Supporters are encouraged to travel to Armagh to provide the “16th woman” advantage for the girls in red. The final has a 1:00 PM throw-in time at St Oliver Plunkett Park, Crossmaglen.

Louth finished the regular season in first place, with Antrim qualifying in second. Both teams will compete in Division 2 next season.
