COMMUNITY: New Song ‘I’m Okay’ Promotes Autism Acceptance in Dundalk

Dundalk Teacher Inspires Change with New Autism Awareness Anthem

A Dundalk secondary school teacher has released a moving new song and music video designed to shift the conversation around autism from awareness to true acceptance.

‘I’m Okay’ was written by Pamela Campbell, who teaches Music and Irish at De La Salle College. Drawing inspiration from local children with autism, Ms. Campbell crafted the song to challenge the misconceptions often associated with neurodiversity.

A Simple But Profound Message

The song’s core message is built on the idea that being different is not a deficit. The lyrics, including the poignant line “I’m okay, I’m doing fine. I just see this world through different eyes,” reflect a perspective of strength and self-assurance.

“The song’s message is simple but profound: people with autism are not broken, not lost, not in need of fixing,” Ms. Campbell explained. “They are okay. They see the world differently—and that difference deserves to be understood, accepted, and celebrated.”

Dedicated to the Memory of Daragh McNally

The project holds deep emotional significance for the local community, as it is dedicated to the memory of Daragh McNally, a local boy who passed away six years ago.

The song is brought to life by the vocals of Zara Woods, whose performance has resonated with listeners across the county. Following its release to coincide with World Autism Awareness Day, the music video had its official premiere at a special event in Dundalk this week.

Positive Response and Digital Premiere

Since going live online, the music video has received an overwhelming response from parents, educators, and the wider autism community. Ms. Campbell noted that the feedback has been incredibly positive, with many praising the song for its authentic and empowering tone.

The release marks another example of the vibrant creative spirit in Dundalk being used to champion important social causes and foster a more inclusive environment for all residents.
