“Closing Our Doors”: Ardee Bids Farewell to Sizzlers After Three Decades
In a poignant announcement that has sent shockwaves through the local community, the owners of Sizzlers Cafe in Ardee have confirmed they will close their doors permanently this May.
The news, shared via a heartfelt message on the cafe’s social media, marks the conclusion of 30 years of business on Ardee’s main street. For three decades, the cafe has served as a vital social hub, bridging the gap between generations and providing a neutral, welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.
A Vital Social Hub Lost
From the older generation meeting for morning coffee to local students gathering after school, Sizzlers occupied a unique niche in the town’s social landscape. Many residents have expressed their sadness at the news, noting that the loss leaves a significant gap in the “social heart” of the town.
“It’s a real blow to Ardee,” said one long-time regular. “There aren’t many places where you can just sit and feel part of the community like you could in Sizzlers. It was about the people and the familiar faces that made the town feel like home.”
A Message from Allison and Brian
In an emotional statement addressed to their loyal patrons, owners Allison and Brian expressed their deep gratitude for the support they have received since opening thirty years ago.
The owners also took a moment to single out the dedicated team that helped build the business into a local institution:
Final Trading Day and Voucher Notice
Sizzlers will officially close this chapter on Saturday, the 16th of May. Allison and Brian have invited the public to “pop in to say goodbye” before the final shutters are drawn. Crucially, they are also encouraging anyone with outstanding vouchers to ensure they are used before the closing date.
New Chapter: Domino’s Pizza to Move In
It has also been confirmed that the site will enter a new phase, with international pizza franchise Domino’s expected to occupy the premises following the cafe’s departure.
While the arrival of a major brand brings new investment and potential jobs to the town, it marks a significant shift from the traditional independent cafe culture that Sizzlers represented. Renovation work is expected to commence shortly after the premises are vacated in mid-May.
