The mobile unit is equipped to provide several quick, non-invasive health assessments on the spot:

  • Blood Pressure Checks: Essential for monitoring cardiovascular health and identifying potential risks early.
  • BMI Calculations: Understanding body mass index as part of a broader health and nutrition discussion.
  • Carbon Monoxide Testing: Available for those interested in smoking cessation support.
  • Private Nurse Consultations: One-on-one time with a nurse to discuss cancer symptoms, national screening programmes, and risk reduction.
“About 4 in 10 cancers can be prevented through lifestyle changes. Our goal is to bring that information directly into the heart of communities like Dundalk.”

Why Early Detection Saves Lives

A primary goal of the roadshow is to demystify cancer symptoms and encourage people to visit their GPs if they notice anything unusual. Nurses on site will explain the national screening programmes — including BowelScreen, BreastCheck, and CervicalCheck — and how to spot early warning signs across a range of cancers.

Research consistently shows that many people delay seeking medical advice due to fear or a lack of information. By bringing these conversations into a local shopping centre, the Irish Cancer Society aims to remove those barriers entirely.

🔍 Know Your Screening Programmes

  • BowelScreen: Free bowel cancer screening for men and women aged 59–69.
  • BreastCheck: Free mammograms for women aged 50–69 every two years.
  • CervicalCheck: Free cervical smear tests for women aged 25–65.
  • More info: Nurses at the roadshow can explain eligibility and how to register for each programme.
Take ten minutes out of your day to prioritise your health — it’s a small investment that could make a life-changing difference.
