Dundalk Secure Dramatic Point in Six-Goal Thriller as Drogheda Fall in Tallaght
It was a night of contrasting fortunes for Louth’s Premier Division sides as Dundalk battled back in a 3-3 classic at the RSC, while Drogheda United struggled against a rampant Shamrock Rovers.
Dundalk Goals: Horgan (14′, 83′), Arubi (35′)
Dundalk showed immense resilience at the RSC, twice taking the lead in a pulsating encounter. Daryl Horgan opened the scoring early before Gbemi Arubi doubled the advantage in the 35th minute. While Tommy Lonergan and Padraig Amond pulled Waterford level, Horgan’s second in the 83rd minute looked to have secured the win. However, a late John Mahon header in the 88th minute ensured the spoils were shared.
Drogheda Goal: Doyle (49′)
In Tallaght, Drogheda United faced a formidable Shamrock Rovers side that moved three points clear at the top of the table. Despite six changes to the champions’ XI, John McGovern’s double and a header from Matthew Healy left the Drogs with a mountain to climb. Mark Doyle provided a brief spark of hope in the 49th minute, but Maleace Asamoah’s strike on the 67th minute sealed the result.
While Dundalk’s away form continues to show signs of promise, Drogheda will look to regroup following a difficult night against the clinical depth of the champions.
