31,000 Louth Students to Benefit as €5.3m Schoolbook Funding Confirmed
Minister for Education and Youth Hildegarde Naughton has confirmed that 31,141 students across Louth are set to benefit from a significant investment in the national Free Schoolbooks Scheme.
The initiative, which aims to drastically reduce back-to-school expenses, has seen a total of €5,335,876 allocated to 92 schools throughout the Wee County. This funding is split to support both primary and post-primary levels, ensuring that children from junior infants through to Leaving Cert have the materials they need for a successful academic year.

Removing Barriers to Education
The scheme is designed to cover not just schoolbooks, but a range of core classroom resources, removing the need for parents and guardians to purchase or rent these items. This move is seen as a major step toward equity in the classroom, ensuring that every student has a consistent set of tools regardless of their financial background.
Supporting 92 Local Schools
In total, 73 primary schools and 19 post-primary schools in Louth will implement the scheme this year. The Minister extended her gratitude to the principals and staff across the county for their logistical work in making the scheme a reality.
This investment arrives at a crucial time for local families. As we’ve seen with other community initiatives like the Dunleer Garden Care scheme and the Corderry Fruit Farm Charity Walk, Louth is a county that thrives when its residents are supported. This educational boost ensures that the “great talent” within our local classrooms has every opportunity to shine in the coming term.
