Ardee Talent Heads to Sweden: Local Duo Leo McGrory and Logan McCartney Join Dundalk Squad for Gothia Cup
It is a proud moment for local football as Leo McGrory and Logan McCartney, both hailing from Square Utd, have been named in the U15 squad heading to Gothenburg for the world’s largest and most international youth football tournament. The Dundalk Schoolboys League side is set to travel on July 11th, marking the start of a week-long journey filled with competitive football and cultural experiences.
A Historic Honour
While the focus is on the pitch, there is also a significant moment of history taking place off it. Rock Celtic player Shay McCartney has been given the unique privilege of reading the Gothia Cup Oath during the opening ceremony at the iconic Ullevi Stadium. This makes him the first Irish player in the tournament’s 50-year history to be granted this honour. Despite suffering a recent leg injury, Shay remains an integral part of the travelling party and will take the stage in front of a live audience of 55,000 people and a global livestream.
