Drogheda United and Red Door Project Shine at All Ireland Homeless Street League Finals
Drogheda United, in partnership with The Red Door Project (LCDAT), showcased the transformative power of sport today at the All Ireland Homeless Street League Finals held in Tallaght.
The Drogheda squad got off to a flying start in the competition, securing a dominant 5-2 victory in their opening fixture. Despite being narrowly defeated in their subsequent two group games, the team’s performance was enough to secure a place in the quarter-finals. While they were unfortunately beaten at that stage, their journey through the national competition was marked by skill and resilience.
Colm Lynch Named Player of the Year
A highlight of the day for the Louth contingent was the presentation of Drogheda United’s Homeless Street League Player of the Year Award. The honour was presented to Colm Lynch by Irish football legend Niall Quinn, capping off a significant individual and team achievement.
The Power of Social Integration
The Irish Homeless Street League is an initiative that uses football as a catalyst for social change. By providing a structured environment through sport, it facilitates the integration of isolated and marginalized individuals back into the heart of their communities.
The partnership between Drogheda United and The Red Door Project continues to be a vital asset for the region, offering a pathway for personal growth and community connection. The club and the project extended a massive “well done” to all the players for their dedication and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
