Away Ban Extended to Shelbourne Fixture Following Waterford Postponement

Drogheda United FC has confirmed that, following a ruling by the FAI Disciplinary Control Unit (DCU), the final match of the club’s four-game away supporters’ ban will now be served during the upcoming trip to Tolka Park.

The sanction, which was imposed following incidents at the Louth Derby earlier this season, was originally intended to conclude with the fixture against Waterford FC on Friday, 10th April. However, with that match postponed due to an unplayable pitch at the RSC, the sequence of the ban has been officially altered.

Unsuccessful Appeal for Sequence Change

In an effort to allow traveling fans to support the team in the capital, Drogheda United management submitted a formal proposal to the DCU. The club requested that away supporters be permitted to attend the clash against Shelbourne FC on Friday, 24th April, with the final ban day deferred to the rescheduled Waterford fixture.

The DCU did not approve this request, maintaining a strict policy that disciplinary sanctions must be enforced in the order of the original fixture list. As a result:

  • April 24th (Shelbourne Away): No away supporters permitted.
  • Rescheduled Waterford Fixture: Away supporters will be permitted to attend (Date TBC).
“The DCU has confirmed that the sanction must be enforced in its original sequence, meaning the ban moves to the next chronologically scheduled away match.”

Return Date: Tallaght Stadium

While the news is a disappointment for fans hoping to visit Tolka Park, there is finally a confirmed date for the return of the Claret and Blue faithful on the road.

Drogheda United supporters will be officially permitted to attend away fixtures again from Monday, 4th May. This coincides with a major test for Kevin Doherty’s men as they travel to face Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium.

Gratitude to the Fans

The club has expressed its thanks to the wider supporter base for their patience and cooperation during the duration of this four-game ban. With the end of the sanction now in sight, the club looks forward to the renewed energy and atmosphere that the traveling support brings to League of Ireland venues.

Tickets for the home stands at Weaver’s Park remain available for all upcoming fixtures as the Drogs look to climb the Premier Division table.
