Dundalk End St Pat’s Unbeaten Run with Impressive Oriel Park Win

League of Ireland Premier Division | Match Report

Dundalk continued their remarkable return to the Premier Division with a superb 2-0 victory over league leaders St Patrick’s Athletic at Oriel Park.

First-half goals from Tyreke Wilson and Shane Tracey secured all three points for the Lilywhites, ending St Pat’s seven-game unbeaten run in the process.

Flying Start for Dundalk

Dundalk struck early and were 2-0 up inside 21 minutes, putting St Patrick’s Athletic immediately on the back foot.

Wilson opened the scoring after eight minutes when his effort took a deflection and looped over the goalkeeper following good work from Gbemi Arubi.

The second goal arrived on 21 minutes when Shane Tracey finished clinically after a defensive error, netting for his hometown club just days after his 20th birthday.

Dundalk were 2-0 up inside 21 minutes and never looked back against the league leaders.

Dundalk in Control

The home side dominated much of the first half, creating further chances through Eoin Kenny and Daryl Horgan, while St Pat’s struggled to find any rhythm.

St Patrick’s Athletic did threaten before the break, but Dundalk goalkeeper Enda Minogue made key saves to keep the clean sheet intact.

Late Drama but Dundalk Hold Firm

Despite being reduced to 10 men late on after Daryl Horgan received a second yellow card, Dundalk remained in control and saw out the game comfortably.

St Pat’s pushed forward in the closing stages but failed to seriously test Minogue as Dundalk secured another important win.

Strong Start Continues

The result continues Dundalk’s impressive start to life back in the Premier Division. After 10 games, they now sit just three points off the top of the table and well clear of the relegation zone.

Ciarán Kilduff’s side have exceeded expectations so far this season and are quickly establishing themselves as one of the form teams in the league.

Dundalk are now just three points off top spot after an outstanding start to the season.
