Dundalk Win Five-Goal Thriller While Drogheda Match Overshadowed by Injury Incident
Shelbourne 2 – 3 Dundalk
Dundalk secured an impressive 3-2 win over Shelbourne at Tolka Park, recording their first away win against the Dublin side since 2020.
The Lilywhites made a strong start and took the lead through Gbemi Arubi, who reacted quickest to head home from close range following a well-worked corner.
Dundalk doubled their lead shortly afterwards when Bobby Burns struck a superb long-range effort to put the visitors firmly in control.
Shelbourne responded in the second half and fought back to level the game through Zeno Ibsen Rossi and John Martin.
However, Dundalk grabbed a late winner when Eoin Kenny’s cross was turned into his own net by Rossi with just four minutes remaining.
Drogheda United 0 – 0 Bohemians
Drogheda United shared the points with league leaders Bohemians in a game that was overshadowed late on by a serious injury to Bohs substitute Shane Farrell.
Farrell required lengthy treatment on the pitch after a heavy fall and was later stretchered off and taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
Drogheda manager Kevin Doherty later confirmed that the player was conscious and undergoing tests in hospital.
Both sides had chances during the game, with Drogheda going close through Mark Doyle and James Bolger, while Bohemians also missed a number of opportunities.
However, the match finished scoreless, with the injury incident putting the result into perspective.
