Tinnelly Goal Sees Louth U20s Defeat Dublin in Leinster Clash
Dublin 1-13
A late goal from Padraic Tinnelly proved the difference as Louth claimed a major win over Dublin in the Leinster U20 Football Championship to go top of Group 1.
Louth Lead From Start to Finish
Fresh from their opening round win over Westmeath, Fergal Reel’s Louth side led from start to finish at Parnell Park, holding a four-point lead at half-time before pushing further ahead in the closing stages.
The crucial moment came in the 56th minute when Padraic Tinnelly, a late addition to the starting line-up, fired home a decisive goal to put Louth seven points clear.
Markey Save Proves Crucial
Louth goalkeeper Tiarnan Markey played a vital role in the win, producing an outstanding save from Dublin’s Rian Doherty shortly after the Louth goal.
Dublin did manage to find the net late on through Donach Magee, and a late two-pointer from Doherty reduced the gap to just three points.
Doherty had a final chance to level the match in the closing moments but fired into the side netting as Louth held on for an important win.
Leinster U20 Round-Up
Elsewhere in the Leinster Championship, Meath recorded another big win, defeating Laois 3-12 to 0-10 to go top of Group 2.
Longford also recorded a win over Carlow, while Kildare finished top of Group 3 after winning both of their matches and now progress to the quarter-finals.
