
Local Notes – Ardee & Mid Louth
There was plenty happening across Ardee and Mid Louth this past week, from successful community events and club activities to important parish updates and community initiatives. St Patrick’s Day celebrations were a great success, while local clubs, groups and organisations continue to provide fantastic opportunities for people of all ages to get involved. As always, the community spirit across the area remains strong.
📍 Ardee
There was great sadness around Ardee Coach Trim last week following the sudden passing of Martin Whately RIP. Martin, along with Colman O’Flynn, was instrumental in setting up Ardee Coach Trim in 1989. He was described as “a true gentleman” and will be greatly missed.
Well done to everyone connected with the St Patrick’s Day parade in Ardee, which was another great success and a very enjoyable day for the community.
A series of talks continues in Ardee Church every Monday and Thursday at 7.30pm, running until the weekend of April 24–26. Stations of the Cross also take place every Friday during Lent at 3pm in Ardee Church.
Ardee Rugby Club has introduced inclusive training for children aged 6 to 16 with additional needs on Saturdays, a wonderful initiative that puts inclusion at the heart of the club.
New members are invited to the Creative Writing Group in Ardee Library every Friday from 10.30am to 12 noon. Beginners and experienced writers are welcome and there is no cost involved.
Ardee Boxing Club is now based in the old school at Ballapousta near the graveyard. New members over seven years of age are welcome to come along. Training costs €5 per session.
Ardee School of Music continues to offer its Baby Musical Rascals classes for babies aged 3 months to 1 year, a lovely introduction to music for little ones.
Bridge classes for beginners and improvers take place every Tuesday at 7.30pm in Ferdia House, Moorehall.

📍 Collon
The Mattock Rangers Lotto numbers drawn were 4, 12, 19 and 22. The €11,900 jackpot was not won. Match 3 winners were Mario Smith, Edwina McGuinness, Brian McGee, Roger Moore and Tracy & Kim Duff. Next week’s jackpot will be €12,000. The lotto is sponsored by No. 3 Wine Bar and Restaurant.
The Collon Living History Festival will take place on May 16 and 17, and is always a fantastic event.
Collon Parish Choir practices take place on Wednesday nights in the Church Gallery, and new members are always welcome.
Collon Community Together is looking to start a social cycling group for leisurely cycles on Saturday or Sunday mornings. Beginners and experienced cyclists are all welcome.
Mosstown Graveyard Committee is looking for volunteers to help with maintenance of the graveyard. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
📍 Dunleer
The community in Dunleer was deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of Geraldine McDermott. Geraldine will be remembered for her warm smile, kind nature and always having time for a chat. Sincere condolences are extended to her husband Joe, her children Christine, Paul and Helen, and all her family and friends. May she rest in peace.
The Lann Léire GFC lotto numbers drawn on March 18 were 13, 21, 22 and 25. There was no jackpot winner. Weekly winners were Paul Kearney and Margaret Murphy. The next jackpot is €18,900.
The Parish Office at the Parochial House is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 12 noon, and Tuesdays from 5pm to 7pm.
St Vincent’s Shop in Dunleer is now open on Saturdays from 11am to 3pm.
The next Retired and Senior Citizens Tea & Coffee morning will take place on Friday April 3 from 10am to 12 noon in the Market House.
The Lann Léire Walk, Run & Chat takes place every Monday from 6pm to 7pm at the track and is open to members, parents and siblings.
The Active Retirement Group meets every Tuesday at 2pm in St Bridget’s Hall and new members are very welcome.
Slimming World takes place every Wednesday in the Market House at 5.30pm and 7pm.
There are also several vacancies available through the Louth Connect Community Employment Scheme in Dunleer and surrounding areas. Training will be provided.

Bingo continues every Thursday night at 7.30pm in Philipstown Community Centre and all are welcome.
A Drive-In Monster Bingo will take place on Easter Monday, April 6 at 3pm with €10,000 in cash prizes.
First Confessions will take place in Philipstown on March 25 at 7pm.
The Baby & Toddler Playgroup takes place every Wednesday from 10.30am to 12 noon in St Kevin’s Community Centre. Free and all are welcome.
