Tidy Towns Launches Garden Care and Repair Scheme to Support Dunleer Residents

Dunleer Tidy Towns, with the support of Louth County Council, has officially launched a new Garden Care and Repair scheme to assist senior citizens and vulnerable community members.

The initiative was established to help those who find it difficult to keep up with household chores due to health issues, physical disabilities, or the natural challenges of senior years. Recognizing the heartbreak of seeing a once-loved garden fall into disrepair, the scheme provides essential maintenance like grass cutting and hedge trimming.

📋 Scheme Details & Eligibility

  • Service: Free grass cutting and small hedge trimming.
  • Eligibility: Seniors, those with physical handicaps, or residents with learning difficulties who have no other help available.
  • Safety: Volunteers are advised not to enter homes, and residents are asked not to pay for the service.
  • Area: Limited to a 50km radius of Dunleer town.

Call for Volunteers

The scheme, which officially began on March 31st, relies on the power of community spirit. Organizers are currently seeking volunteers (aged 18 and over) who can spare a few hours a week to help their neighbors. All necessary tools, including lawnmowers and hedge cutters, are provided by the Tidy Towns.

This new support for Dunleer residents comes at a busy time for the region, following the recent funding boost for local Men’s Sheds and the launch of the Mid-Louth Young Inventors Competition. It is another example of the “great talent” and heart found across Louth, ensuring that those who cannot help themselves are not left behind.

How to Apply

Capacity for the scheme is limited, so residents are encouraged to apply as soon as possible via an application form.
