A historic day for the town. Absolutely massive.

The gates of Scoil Mhuire Na Trócaire were buzzing with excitement as the local community gathered for an incredible lineup of events. Not only did the school proudly hoist its milestone 15th Green Flag into the summer breeze, but they also raised a pioneering new ADHD Friendly School Flag. With the Ombudsman for Children’s Office making a high-profile visit to town on top of the flag ceremonies, there was a serious amount of celebratory energy filling the classrooms.

And what better way to cap it off than with an ice cream feast?

The first massive round of applause belongs to the school’s Green Schools Committee. Mavis and Colette from Ardee Tidy Towns kindly did the honors, helping the children and staff celebrate their exceptional, long-term commitment to caring for the local environment. The committee stood up to talk through the brilliant everyday recycling, energy-saving, and waste-reduction efforts that helped the school reach this remarkable 15th eco-milestone.

🧠 Hoisting the ADHD Friendly School Flag

Right alongside the green emblem, a very special new flag was raised to recognize a year of immense learning, empathy, and professional development within the school corridors.

This award highlights the incredible dedication of the school’s teachers and SNAs, who spent the school term learning deeply about ADHD and discovering the best ways to uplift and support the children in their care.

Members of the student “Wellbeing Committee” took to the microphone to introduce the award. They beautifully explained that the flag stands as a permanent symbol of Scoil Mhuire Na Trócaire’s promise to be a place where every single child feels understood, included, and fully supported. It serves as a warm daily reminder that everyone learns in their own different way, ensuring every pupil can reach their full potential and shine.

A Fond Farewell to Our OCO School Ambassadors

Voices that truly made an impact.

The afternoon also brought a very special, emotional milestone for the school’s 6th Class pupils as they officially completed their final day acting as OCO School Ambassadors. Representatives from the Ombudsman for Children’s Office traveled to Ardee to personally present the class with official certificates, honoring their outstanding work throughout the 2025–2026 school year.

They did an unforgettable job.

Over the past year, these fantastic young leaders took on the vital responsibility of raising awareness about children’s rights. They brought the subject to life through brilliant, fun activities in their own classrooms, across the wider school, and right throughout the school’s social media platforms. The visiting OCO team noted it has been an absolute joy partnering with the class, praising their significant contributions before wishing them the absolute best as they pack their gear for their next big adventure in secondary school.

🍦 A Sweet Surprise from the Ombudsman

To ensure the day was completely unforgettable, a very special guest dropped by with the ultimate summer treat. The Children’s Ambassador, Dr Niall Muldoon, and his visiting team completely delighted the pupils by treating the entire school to free ice cream to celebrate the massive occasion!
