School’s Out! Free ‘My Little Library’ Bags Available in Ardee

With the summer holidays now in full swing, the Louth Library Service has a fantastic treat to help local children prepare for their next big adventure: starting “Big School.”

We know that starting Junior Infants is a significant milestone—sometimes a bit “scary” for both the children and the parents! To help ease that transition, Louth Library Service is inviting families to call into their local branch to collect a special gift: a free “My Little Library” book bag.

These bags are specifically curated for children aged 4, 5, and 6. Each one is packed with great books, a library card wallet, and plenty of resources designed to spark curiosity and help little ones feel ready for the classroom environment.

How to Collect Your Bag

The bags are currently available at all five branches across the county: Dundalk, Drogheda, Dunleer, Carlingford, and, of course, right here at our own branch in **Ardee**.

📋 Joining the Library is Easy

If you haven’t joined the library yet, there is no better time to sign up than when you collect your bag. The process is simple, free, and open to all:

No Appointment Needed: Just walk in during standard opening hours.
What to Bring: Simply bring a form of photo ID and proof of your current address.
Family Registration: Our friendly librarians will register you and your family on the spot, giving you immediate access to a world of brilliant books.

This initiative is proudly supported by a range of partners including Louth County Council, the Louth ABC Programme, Louth County Childcare Committee, and the Department of Children, Disability, Equality, Integration, Youth and the Department of Rural and Community Development. It’s a wonderful example of local and national bodies working together to encourage a love of reading from an early age.
