Square United Set Blistering Pace as Local Title Race Ignites
The mid-Louth town of Ardee is dreaming of top-flight glory once again as Square United launched their 2026 campaign with an attacking masterclass, though the road to the title remains steep.
It has been 97 years since the trophy was last paraded through Ardee by Dee United in 1929. After finishing third last term, Square United are many fans’ pick to finally dethrone Carlingford Celtic.
Square trounced league newcomers Parkside in a one-sided affair. Ken McKenna Jr was the hero of the day with a clinical hat-trick, supported by a brace from James O’Connor. Aidan Lee and Cian Matthews also found the net for the Ardee side.
The Ardee side faced their first setback on Bank Holiday Monday. Haynestown made a massive statement of intent, with Daramola Akinade grabbing a brace to take the west-side outfit to the top of the table. Cian Matthews and James Morris replied for Square.
The reigning champions maintained their 100% start. The league’s leading marksman, Coran Lyndsey, proved the difference once again, netting a brace to bring his tally to eight goals in just four games.
A comfortable victory at Gills Park saw Micky O’Kane continue his fine form with two goals, while Daniel Duffy added a late fourth to secure the points.
In the most one-sided game seen in years, Rampart recorded a dozen goals on the Muirhevnamor astro. A relentless attacking display saw multiple scorers, including two for Omotoso and a strike from Aidan McGuiness.
